3. Foundation Course at LBSNAA: All selected candidates attend a common training program at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. This starts around September and lasts about 15 weeks, where you learn administration basics and interact with fellow officers.
4. Further Training and Posting (After Foundation Course): After completing the Foundation Course at LBSNAA, the real service-specific training begins. Here’s how it goes, especially for IAS officers (other services follow similar patterns in their respective academies):
   • Phase I Training at LBSNAA: This training is focused on giving you in-depth knowledge about your role. You’ll learn about district administration, revenue laws, land management, law and order, and government procedures. It includes lectures, classroom sessions, and field visits.
   • Bharat Darshan (Study Tour): As part of Phase I, all officer trainees go on an all-India tour called Bharat Darshan. You’ll visit different states, defence institutions, industries, and administrative bodies to understand how India functions from ground level to top governance.
   • District (Field) Training: After Phase I, you’ll be sent to your allotted cadre (state) for almost a year. You will be posted in a district and work under a District Collector. This hands-on experience teaches you how things actually work in the field — how to handle law and order, revenue collection, rural development, and public services.
   • Phase II Training at LBSNAA: After field training, you’ll return to LBSNAA for Phase II. Here, you share your field experience with batchmates and receive more advanced training in public policy, governance, and leadership.
   • Assistant Secretaryship (for IAS only): After completing Phase II, IAS officers are posted in Delhi as Assistant Secretaries in various central government ministries for about 3 months. This gives you exposure to policymaking at the national level.
   • Final Posting: After completing all training stages, you’re posted in your cadre/state as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) or equivalent. From here, your real journey as a civil servant begins!
